Most people build a business by chasing. Chasing clients. Chasing leads. Chasing revenue. Chasing the next opportunity that might move things forward. It works for a while, but it’s exhausting. And it rarely compounds.

At some point you realise the best business you’ll ever build is the kind that calls you back. The kind where your clients return, refer, and genuinely want to stay connected. That’s when you know you’ve built something real.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately because something strange keeps happening. More and more people ask me whether their amount is “enough” to work with me. It’s flattering, sure, but also a little confronting. It makes me wonder: have I built something that people want to be part of because of value, trust, or reputation? And if so, am I still giving them full access? Or have I outgrown parts of the model without noticing?

I’ve never charged a fee for what I do. My profit is built into the rate. I only make money when the client has a successful transfer. That has always felt right to me. It’s a win for them, a win for me, and a much fairer way to do business in a banking industry that’s usually filled with unnecessary friction.

But here’s the thing. When the calls start coming because people trust you, because they understand the value, because their friends tell them “call Chris, he’ll look after you”, that’s when you feel the shift. You’ve stopped chasing. The business is now calling you back.

It happens when you consistently show up with genuine advice. When you simplify complex decisions. When people know you actually care about the outcome, not just the transaction.

I’ve moved countries twice in the last two years. I’ve changed structures, built new entities, opened new markets, and rebuilt my life around a global strategy that most people only consider once they’re wealthy. And still, the business follows me everywhere. Good clients find me wherever I am in the world. Because once you build trust, geography doesn’t matter. Time zones don’t matter. Results matter.

And that’s the point. If you focus on delivering exceptional value, if you protect people’s money as if it were your own, and if you treat every deal like it genuinely matters to someone’s life, the business will always call you back. It becomes a relationship, not a transaction.

I’m not perfect, and I’m constantly learning how to evolve the model. Maybe one day I will need to draw a line and work only with clients above a certain level. Or maybe the model is stronger because I don’t. Right now, I still enjoy helping anyone who’s genuine and wants to learn. But I can feel the shift. The business I built is starting to call me back. And honestly, that’s the best sign of all that I’m on the right track.

Because the best business you’ll ever build isn’t the one you chase. It’s the one that chases you back.
