There is a simple image that has followed me for years. Two miners underground. Both digging toward a wall of diamonds. One keeps swinging the pickaxe with energy. The other turns around just before breaking through. The tiniest layer of dirt separates him from everything he has been working for.
The longer I am in business, the more this image hits me. Maybe it is age. Maybe it is experience. Maybe it is the reality that real success takes a lot longer than people want to admit. What I know for sure is this. You never get to see the outcome if you quit too early.
We live in a world that rewards speed. Fast growth. Fast followers. Fast exits. But every year I am reminded that the things worth building take time. SportsFX did not become what it is today overnight. CB3 did not become a premium brand in Asia overnight. The Currency Advantage did not grow by accident. Every single part of this journey has been slow, steady, and built with intention.
And every time a project hits a quiet patch or a new idea takes longer than I hoped, this image comes back to me. The question it asks is simple. Are you the one who keeps swinging or the one who turns around too early?
The real work happens long before the world notices
Most people only see the result. The partnership announcement. The new website. The big case study. The athlete testimonial. The forward contract that saves someone $81,000. What they do not see is the part that happens underground. The emails. The follow ups. The research. The failed ideas. The moments when you wonder if any of it is going to work.
But this is the game. And if you stop swinging the pickaxe in that stage, you never reach the part where everything clicks.
Every meaningful opportunity in my career came from staying the course
When I moved from Australia to Thailand. When I rebuilt the brand. When I created new partnerships. When I expanded into Dubai. All of it took patience. Some days it felt like nothing was moving. Other days it felt like everything was moving too slowly. But when you stay consistent long enough, the momentum appears. A meeting leads to another meeting. A podcast turns into a lead. A newsletter subscriber becomes a client. A small transfer becomes a seven figure one.
The people who win in this game are not the ones who sprint. They are the ones who refuse to stop.
This matters now more than ever
I am building bigger projects now. Bigger partnerships. Bigger systems. Bigger content engines. Bigger ambitions. None of them will be overnight successes. And I have made peace with that. Because the real win is not the timeline. It is the conviction to keep going.
If you are building something. A business. A career. A new chapter. A new country. Remember the image. You might be one swing away from the breakthrough. You might be closer than you think. And you will never know if you stop.
The takeaway
Keep swinging. Keep showing up. Keep putting in the work that no one sees. Because one day the thing that felt slow for months or years will suddenly look like an overnight success to everyone else.
But you will know the truth. You earned every swing.
